How does hair mousse work? When should you use it?
Recently I’ve become a friend with hair mousse because my hair had lost volume and I had to counteract it by introducing some new hair styling practices. Do you use hair mousse regularly?
The hero of the post: Hair mousse
This is one of the most popular hair styling products chosen by professionals. They do know how to make 100% of it and take advantage of all its properties. Indeed, we often reach for hair mousse while styling hair at home but, sadly, we don’t know how to use the product correctly.
Therefore, let me tell you what hair mousse really is (how does it really work?) and present you a short guide to proper hair mousse use.
How does hair mousse work?
Hair mousse is a beauty product that no owner of unruly hair should lack. It’s mainly appreciated by those of us who have curly and volume-deprived hair. Obviously, hair mousse is also useful when you want to arrange hair in a glamorous updo that remains untouched for many long hours.
I guess, I can say that a hair mousse is our ally and trusted ‘friendly power’ in our daily hair styling.
- It boosts hair volume at the roots.
- Eases hair styling and hair arrangement.
- Provides long hold.
- Defines and improves hair curl.
- Prevents dehydration and static.
- It may condition hair.
Four applications of hair mousse that you might not have heard of
And now it’s time to discover most common uses of hair mousse. Or perhaps they aren’t that common? If some of the ideas below left you surprised, please let me know in the comments.
1. VOLUME AT YOUR WHIM
Hair mousse equals improved volume and shaping a hairdo the way we want it to have. If you have – like I – volume-deprived hair that is flat and lifeless, you just must give a hair mousse a go. A hazelnut-sized blob rubbed at the roots will add body to hair which will result in the entire hairdo looking better.
Obviously, the rule is simple – the shorter hair, the less mousse you need to use to boost volume. You must remember that too much of hair mousse applied will clump the strands and weigh them down instead of improving your hair appearance.
2. CURL AND HOLD
Are you dreaming of having curls from the cover of a magazine? This is easy to achieve providing that you have a hair mousse close at hand. Another use of this hair styling product concerns curly hair.
Once you wash the hair and remove excess water with a cotton towel, rub a hair mousse and blow-dry the strands (use a diffuser). If you have a regular blow dryer, you can use hair rollers when the hair is still damp. When dry, take the rollers off and run your fingers through the curls to arrange the hairdo. Mind you: don’t use comb to detangle curly hair!
3. HEAT PROTECTION
Few people know that a dollop of hair mousse may shield your hair from high temperature generated by a blow dryer/flat iron and even UV rays. Especially those of you who regularly expose their hair to color treatment should befriend hair mousse and apply it prior to every blow drying and hair styling. It’s worth doing so because hair mousse also facilitates detangling, which means that it also protects from mechanical damage.
4. EASY HAIR STYLING
The last application of hair mousse is known to you all, I’m sure about it. In short, it depends on using this product to facilitate arranging and updoing the hair which might be frizzy and static after washing. A good hair mousse should handle this.
Just scoop out a portion of hair mousse and knead it into hair. Run a comb through the hair to distribute the mousse evenly. Hair should become easier to style then. Say goodbye to sliding out bobby pins, fly-aways that ruin your bun and unraveling braids.
